In the wheelchairs by the window
Days after days, nights follow nights
Together to the end of life.
They are husband and wife
They are aunt and uncle
They are dear old people
Together…in a mercy living home.
They sit side by side
Chins tuck under, rest on their chests
Sleeping, drifting, in their wheelchairs
Days and nights, side by side.
A man, a woman, a lifetime love
A little touch on each other’s arm
And they smile at their sweethearts
